"Recent progress in optical science and high field physics research in APRI"-Dr. Do-Kyeong Ko
Friday, October 26, 2007 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
Advanced Photonics Research Institute, GIST, Gwangju 500-712, Korea
Abstract:
APRI is the only research institute dedicated to the study of optical science and technology in Korea. Currently, we have research groups in nonlinear optics, nano-photonics, biophotonics, laser spectroscopy, and optical communications. Some of the research results will be introduced.
Above all, the most important research project of APRI is the construction of PW-class ultrashort laser facility and high field sciences research by use of the facility. APRI PW project is being performed as scheduled. A 300-TW booster amplifier stage is being constructed and ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the ultrashort quantum beam facility was celebrated at APRI early this year and it will be open on the second half of next year.
A series of experiments on high field physics with the APRI 100-TW ultrashort laser system have been performed collaborating with domestic and overseas research teams. Among them are the experiments for electron acceleration, proton generation, and x-ray laser generation.
In this presentation, current status of the construction of the PW-class ultrashort quantum beam facility and high field photon science research activities of APRI will be introduced.
